Based on an old country house which serves as the clubhouse, Lauro has just opened a spectacular third loop of nine holes which bring variety, height and depth to the complex.
All the current holes here are named after famous bullfighters and many fairways are defined by lines of olive trees. There are several water hazards, including one at the 18th waiting to catch golfers as they come home.
Housing developments are getting underway but Lauro still offers a magnificent setting with superlative mountain and valley views.

Quietly set in the hills behind Mijas, 7 kilometres land inwards from the N340 between Marbella and Fuengirola, La Cala Golf and Country Club is a superb Golf Resort covering two 18-hole courses, a short 6-hole par 3 executive course and excellent practice facilities at The Davis Leadbetter Golf
Academy.
Other facilities like tennis and squash courts, an indoor swimming pool plus sauna make this resort and hotel popular all year-round.
The course was opened in 1991 and designed by Cabell B. Robinson (a protg of Robert Trent Jones). La Cala Sur and La Cala Norte both are spectacular courses in a heavily undulated area providing magnificent panoramic views.
The mostly large but elevated greens, tricky fairways and many water hazards make it punishing but fair courses. Accuracy from the tee is essential!

|
Los Lagos:
With two of the busiest and most popular golf courses on the Costa del Sol, Mijas Golf is definitely doing something right.
Both 18 hole courses were designed by Robert Trent Jones in the mid-70s.
Golfers will enjoy Trent Jones creation with its gentle, undulating fairways and the general impression of wide open space on the two courses.
Exotic Araucaria pines and perfumed jacaranda line the fairways at Los Lagos, and olive trees, naturally, are in abundance on Los Olivos.
Los Lagos (the Lakes) is the longer of the two at 6404 metres and it is named after its seven thirsty water hazards. Its greens are wide but contoured and well protected bunkers. Los Olivos, at 6009
metres is a tighter challenge than Los Lagos.
It has water traps, twisted bunkers and quick greens with subtle slopes. The Greens are to USGA specifications and the fairways are of 419 Bermuda grass.

Great views and an undulated course with mature vegetation make La Siesta a pleasant visit.

Santa Maria Golf:
The course is situated on the edge of pine trees and cork oaks and the first nine holes were originally designed by the Spanish Ryder Cup player Antonio Garrido and opened in 1991.
The subsequent nine holes were designed by Santa Maria’s own technical team and opened in 1996.
The course traces the contours of two valleys in which the natural vegetation, streams and lakes form natural hazards. If you drive well you will like this course and the fairways are always in good condition.
The greens are generously on the large side and are considered some of the best along the coast. One feature is that most of the tees are elevated and this gives you a birds eye view of your target area.
Another is the abundance of land the course is constructed on but great attention has been given to the characteristics and appearance at Santa Maria.
To play here is a very pleasant experience and can be enjoyed by all standards of golfer. If your golf is not going well you will be at peace here in an area steeped in nature.
There is a good mixture of tight and open holes, long and short holes and holes where care is needed and test even the best.
Amongst the most spectacular holes is the seventh where the green is surrounded by bunkers and the eleventh where a lake and waterfall border the green.

Marbella Club Golf:
A championship course designed by Robert Trent Jones. A new golf course in a beautiful setting.
Gently undulating fairways meander between olive groves to produce a testing golf course. Large bunkers protect the greens and several water hazards come into play, the rough can also be difficult.
The Marbella golf course starts off fairly hilly, then starts to level out into more open flat terrain. With its sweeping fairways, abundant bunkers and large undulating greens, the first few holes require accurate and brave tee shots to get across the ravines and gulleys.
Although the next holes are somewhat easier on the nerves, players should beware the fearsome 11th, a sharp dogleg right with hills, valleys and seagulls who occasionally steal your balls.
From the raised tees at the 12th you can get a magnificent view of the sea.

Rio Real Golf Club:
Course was designed by the foremost Spanish golf architect Javier Arana and opened in 1965.
Spreading over a beautiful valley, the course is set in splendid surroundings on gently undulating terrain, softly sloping toward the Mediterranean.
Backed by the Sierra Bermeja which culminates at 1500 metres it forms a natural shelter and creates a subtropical climate even during the winter months which are extremely mild. This offers the perfect conditions to play golf year round.
Rio Real also offers a driving range, putting green, private golf lessons, bar and restaurant and a well stocked pro shop.
In the past year the club has benefited from several major improvements, namely replanted fairways, new greens, enlargement of cart paths and refurbishment of the clubhouse and its facilities.
Rio Real is one of the top 3 courses in Costa del Sol and in 2002 was considered the most improved course of the year.
Hilly but well maintained course. A good test of your abilities.

La Dama de la Noche:
If you are an insomniac then La Dama de Noche is a golfing paradise just for you.
This is the first course in Spain to stay open 24 hours a day and therefore you can play through the night if that is what makes you happy! Designed by Enrique Canales, the course was opened in 1991 and takes its name from the flowering shrub whose night time fragrance is said to keep mosquitoes away.
This is a nine hole course that can be played as a full eighteen and the big innovation here is the lighting system that enables you to play in darkness and this is strategically placed so as not to cast shadows.
It is daylight quality and gives maximum visibility therefore making it easy to find your ball. If you want to play night time then this must be pre-booked and groups must consist of a minimum of players, and this is presently fifteen.
The course itself does not have any rough to worry about but merely a river and two lakes that effect play on nearly every hole.
It is a relatively short course by modern standards and play seems to keep at a steady pace here. It is an interesting test for golfers of all standards.

La Quinta Golf Club:
Located in the heart of the Marcella's Golf valley with the best panoramic views of the mountain and the Marbella coastline, is one of the most charismatic clubs in Spain.
Designed to test the ability of all golfers, La Quinta has narrow fairways that roll towards the fast greens.
A hilly course that requires accuracy and good stamina! It is one of the most attractive golf courses on the coast.
Designed by Antonio Garcia Garrido and former Ryder Cup player and two time World cup champion Manuel Pinero, La Quinta offers panoramic vistas over Marcella's golf valley.
A successful round on this golf course requires not only accuracy in order to avoid its trees, water hazards and the large albeit shallow sand traps along the fairways, but also stamina, for it is an unforgiving up and down.
Deeper bunkers lie in wait for stray approach shots to the greens. The most difficult hole is considered to be the long 15th with its dogleg to the left.
Since it first opened La Quinta has added an extra nine holes and replaced several holes on the original course.
The third loop of nine, which can be played either separately or together with the course leads you back to the club house past the Pinero-managed golf school near the 6th hole.
The club house is one of the best equipped on the coast. La Quinta is developing a reputation as host of the prestigious charity pro-am Protagonistas tournament.
Facilities. Three golf courses, golf academy, Pro shop, Padel Tennis and squash. Swimming pool. Fitness centre, Sauna etc. Restaurant, Bar. Congress room, Meeting Room, Business Centre.

Los Arqueros Golf:
Seve Ballesteros designed course set in beautiful countryside with magnificent views of the Med.
A challenge for all golfers.
From the road and arid landscape leading to Ronda, the first impression is one of an extremely hilly golf course. This is not quite the case, but the steep slopes call for the use of a buggy to play a little more easily on a golf course whose construction demanded very considerable grading work.
It is not very long but sometimes tight and over cautious approach shots will bring the hazards into play. The course should appeal to attacking golfers, and it will reward bold strokes.
This is particularly true for players who fade the ball or who are specialists of high shots aimed at the smallish greens, which have little in the way of traps.
Imaginative and sometimes quite spectacular, Los Arqueros Golf Course is to be recommended before getting back on the road and heading for the beautiful town of Ronda.

El Paraiso Golf Club:
An attractive course on the Costa Del Sol which is being constantly improved.
Designed by Gary Player in 1974 it was originally owned by Wimpey Homes and purchased by the members in 1996 and they continue to refine the layout and presentation.
There is a well-stocked pro shop with two club professionals and excellent practice facilities to enjoy. The clubhouse offers a friendly service with a varied selection on the menu as well as a large patio area outside to enjoy the scenery.
As for the course itself it is easy to walk but there are ample buggies for those who prefer to ride. It suits all handicap categories and the secret is to drive the ball well although it is not a particularly tight course.
A good drive will always leave you with simple access to the green and a birdie chance. Watch out for the little brooks that are dotted around which can catch you out and the small lakes that are strategically placed particularly from the tees.
The yardage to the green is defined by small bushes off the fairway at 200m, 150m and 100m. Check these out on the first hole. The course is Par71 at 6131m off the white tees and offers a good mix of short and long par 4's, par 5's that can be reached in 2 as well as par 3 of varying distances.
The par 3s are particularly agreeable. This all adds up to a course that gives you a chance to play good golf in enjoyable surroundings.

MonteMayor Golf Club:
Since its opening in 1989 Monte Mayor has built up an unique reputation world wide.
Hidden in the hills behind Cancelada West of San Pedro de Alcntara, this is a monster course. Nowhere else you will find such a quiet surrounding and an extremely challenging golf course as at Monte Mayor.
Among experts, this course is often rated among the top golf courses in the world.
It is an experience where each hole is an infinite challenge on its own. Blind tee shots, steep
ravines (you need to hit the green on the par 3 third!),
terraced fairways, each hole on this course has its own characteristics which makes playing Monte Mayor an unique experience.
Do not hesitate to bring some extra spare golf balls to this monstrous course, designed by Jos Cancedo!
Spectacular views on this hilly course where a buggy is compulsory.

El Coto de la Serena:
Pedro Morn Montero designed the course here that was opened in 1991.
The golf course can be found in the residential area of Coto de la Serena, close to Estepona. There is almost an Oriental appeal about El Coto and in order to make the most of your tee shots, it is recommended that you have a good powerful swing.
Par for the course here is 54. A good practice and warm up course, has some surprises for a Par 3 course. No certificate required.

Estepona Golf:
The 18 hole course, which is located on the inland side of the main coastal road at Km. 150, just one mile from Estepona town centre, was designed by Jos Luis Lpez and first opened in 1989.
The design uses the natural landscape which is set against the Sierra Bermeja mountain range, and enjoys sea views from most parts of the course.
The fairways are wide and the greens large which provides a challenge for players of all levels, but doesn't
penalize the average golfer.
Playing the front nine you'll have the pleasure to play the longest hole in Spain, our third hole, a par 5 called the Ski Run which measures 568 metres from the white tees.
There are many palms, eucalyptus and wild olive trees on the course, and players have a great opportunity to enjoy many rare species of wildlife, particularly on the second half.
Players who are unaccustomed to the warmer temperatures and terrain are always welcome to rent one of our 40 new Club Cars. Alternatively, trolleys are available for
hire. Very interesting layout on the Gibraltar side of Estepona.

La Duquesa's Golf:
This excellent course was designed by Sir Robert Trent Jones and is settled in a spectacular landscape.
With 18 very entertaining holes that will give you the opportunity to enjoy a round of golf under the sun with breezes from the Mediterranean,
The signature Hole Number Eight is where you can realize that it would be very difficult to combine the Landscape and the design of a golf course in such harmony as La Duquesa. Good course management will win over power on this golf course.
Hilly and challenging course even for the pros.

La Canada Golf Course:
This is the only public golf course on the Costa del Sol. Situated close to Almenara in the Guadiara area it is fast becoming another
favorite with our visiting and resident golfers.
La Canada was for many years just a 9 hole course, the first nine designed by Robert Trent Jones and opened in 1982. The new nine was designed by Dave Thomas and opened in 2001.
It has lovely views across the Rio Guadiaro to the Mediterranean and Valderrama This golf course is not hilly, so if you enjoy golf without a buggy this is a good one to try.

Valderrama Golf:
The Number 1 course on the Costa del Golf
Valderrama is a 6356 metres par 71 with no hole of less than championship quality but it can be fully enjoyed by players of all handicaps, thanks to the genius of Robert Trent Jones, Senior, whom many consider the leading golf architect of his day.
The amenability of the golf course to the handicap golfer and its deliberate severity to the championship player owe much to the extensive range of tees.
Each hole has a Professional tee (6356 metres), a Club Championship tee (5994), an Executive tee (5498) and a Seniors' tee (5053), as well as a ladies Professional tee (5294) and a ladies Club tee (4873).
The tees are differentiated not just by distance but by careful sitting.
Valderrama has two prevailing winds: the poniente from the land, which in summer can be very hot, and the levante from the Mediterranean, which brings a cooler sea breeze.
The changed conditions, depending on which one is blowing, add variety to a golf course that is already rich in shot values.
The Practice Ground is near the Clubhouse and has been described by Nick Faldo as the best in Europe. Since that comment was made the facilities have been much improved.
Valderrama has superb drainage. Once, during the week of the Volvo Masters, it suffered 7 " of rain, yet the tournament was still completed on time.

Sotogrande Club De Golf:
First European course designed by Robert Trent Jones and rated among the 100 best courses in the world since its foundation (1964).
The course championship distance is 6224 metres, par 72 and SSS 74 on its longest distance. Although the course has wide fairways and very little semi rough on its fairways, its lakes, fast greens and the strong winds in this area make it a real challenge to the best of players.
Real Club de Golf Sotograndes golf architect, Robert Trent Jones, once described a golf course as a battleground: the players attack the course, and it is the architects obligation to defend it.
And defend our course he had, by means of strategically placed bunkers, water hazards, rough and the general layout of the course itself, as well as having holes of great beauty such as the seventh and twelfth.
Therefore, when you step out onto the first tee, prepare to assume the offensive.
